babies and friends and thrifting and crafting

Thank you so much for all of your kind words! Hubby and I are SO EXCITED! Right now I'm 14 weeks along and am due August 9th. Please say a prayer for a heathly baby, no matter the gender (which we'll find out in about six weeks!).

My new friend Jaime came over today to do some sewing, which we actually didn't do, we went to lunch, talked, and then came back and she knitted while I did some other crafting (see below). It was so nice getting together just to hang out and relax. Hi, Jaime! I know you're out there. :)

We also hit a thrift store on the way back and I got some more vintage sheets for my upcoming vintage sheet quilt. I've been looking for some sheets with more contrast because most of my sheets are all white with small prints, and I found a cute print that should go nicely.

I decided three days ago I wanted to make these adorable valentines for my kindergartners. I found the link to delia creates on MADE, one of my favorite blogs to check daily. We're having a class party on Monday afternoon and I always like to add a little something to their Valentine bags. So I printed them out, copied the box pattern on cardstock, and got to cutting! And more cutting. Way, way, too much cutting.

Luckily now I'm done cutting (the box part, anyway) and have started assembling the boxes. I'm going to put a piece of Laffy Taffy on the inside. They are looking so cute! I'll post a picture soon!

modern quilt guild

Remember the quilt retreat I went to in November? Well, it turns out that several of the ladies who live locally had formed a chapter of the Modern Quilt Guild, and they invited me to join. Last Saturday was our first meeting of the new year, and five of us spent the day sewing and chatting.

I finished piecing and partially basted (I would have completely basted it but ran out of pins) Rory's quilt. Rory was born this past Sunday. Mom is a good friend from school. For her quilt I'm using an Eden charm pack by Lila Tueller for Moda.

I also started piecing Emily's quilt... Emily was born in late December and is the daughter of some of our college friends. Here, I'm using an It's a Hoot charm pack by MoMo for Moda.

Do you sense a Moda theme? I must have Moda fever, because I also have a Bliss charm pack and a Punctuation charm pack that I'm going to use next.

At any rate, I had a great time on Saturday! Next month we are going to learn to piece hexagons from Penny. I'm excited to learn something new!
