craft organization

My craftiness has been overwhelming the living room for quite some time. Yarn, fabric, sewing machine, books, magazines, etc were everywhere. I had a notion to buy or have built an armoire where I could store my stash and declutter the living room. I had almost given up finding something in my price range when luck caught up with me and I found the perfect piece!

Isn't it beautiful? It's Brazilian pine stained in a dark cherry finish. Here it is before I filled it up:

I put the wire shelves that I had been using for yarn inside to help me organize.

And now here it is filled with my stash! I haven't fit everything in yet but I still have some room.
Hub can't believe I'm using the entire thing for my crafty stuff, but I assured him that other women have WAY more stuff than I do and take up lots more space. His reply to that was "If all those women jumped off the Brooklyn Bridge, would you?"
Oh well. I knew he wouldn't care what other people do. But I love my new storage space!

one little word

I've been following Ali Edwards' blog for a few weeks now and have been giving much thought to her idea of focusing on one word for the year, to give a sense of purpose to my life. After much debate and trying on of words that didn't feel quite right, I have come to the conclusion that my word for 2009 is "DO". As in, what can I do right now to help myself become healthier? What can I do to become more organized? What can I do to become more focused? What can I do to become more purposeful?

Head over to Ali's blog to learn more info and see a sample list of words. What is your one little word for 2009?

bored, etc

Hubby is bored and currently pacing the kitchen. He drives me nuts sometimes, because if I ask him what's wrong, all he'll say is "Nothing." Lap after lap around the island and kitchen table. He thinks I'm not paying any attention to him, and I won't give him the satisfaction of acknowledging his pacing. :) *

What does a couple do on a Saturday night when they don't have kids and one of them isn't a big drinker? Plus we live in a town where the nightlife is sleepy at best? I don't enjoy the bar scene a whole lot anyway.

What's that, you say? Bingo Planet at 10pm? It might be crazy enough to work!

I've been making bead necklaces the last couple of weeks. A co-worker's necklace broke and she was overjoyed that I could restring it for her. Since then I've also made a necklace for myself and am contemplating options for a friend's birthday and Mother's Day. (Gasp! Is this me actually planning in advance? Perish the thought!)

*Thank goodness he finally stopped. The repetitive noise was giving me a headache.

whooo do you love? and other random thoughts

First and foremost, tomorrow is my wedding anniversary. Hubs and I have been together for 9 years and married for 3. I have a great husband... supportive, loving, funny, handsome, hardworking... the list goes on and on. Honey, I love you so much... Happy Anniversary!

I love playing with the backgrounds and layout of my blog. So many cute free backgrounds out there! This particular background can be found at http://www.cutestblogontheblock.blogspot.com/. It supports my current owl fetish quite well.

I'm trying to find a piece of furniture, maybe a junior armoire, to put in our living room to contain my craftiness. Yarn, fabric, and my sewing machine are spilling out of their current spaces and taking over the living room. Mr. Seaschell has been quite patient with it but I know I can be organized better.

I like to keep my crafty stuff in the living room because that's where I craft. We do have a spare room upstairs but it's no fun to be in there by myself when Mr. Seaschell is downstairs doing other stuff.

I'm also interested in the concept of the Bento lunch box. I've seen some cute bento boxes out there and like the idea of packing one for school. It sounds like a good way to eat healthier and watch my portions. I like this one and this one.

bummer

Alas, it wasn't meant to be a happy birthday for me. Early yesterday a nasty stomach bug struck me down. I went home at 10 and stayed in bed (unless I was in the bathroom) the rest of the day. Crappy Birthday to me. :(

I still feel icky today, and luckily called in for a sub last night and sent sub plans to a colleague. It feels weird to be at home on a school day.

happy birthday to me!

yay! Tuesday is my birthday! I have a cute crown to wear to school tomorrow (if I can get past how silly I feel wearing it in front of other grown ups). Mr. Seaschell is taking me to Melting Pot for a yummy dinner on Friday, and my mom is getting me a lovely massage. Hurray for birthdays!
